Manuscripts for submission to SSSF can be written in English, Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, and may treat the subject of sport and sports within a variety of social science and humanities disciplines, e.g. sociology, psychology, pedagogy, economy, law, media studies, ethnology, philosophy, history, cultural studies, gender studies, leisure studies, and others.

Please view Terms & Conditions for information about statement on exclusivity of publication, copyright, etc.

Since authors from a number of disciplines are invited to contribute to SSSF, and thus several traditions of style may be utilized, there are no particular style rules for manuscripts submitted to SSSF. Consistency to the chosen style is important. Great care should be taken to ensure that references are correct, and that grammar and spelling are immaculate.

Again, given the number of academic disciplines, the length of an article may vary. The maximum length, however, is 7.000 words. Manuscripts exceeding that length will be returned to the author for editing.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the editor, as MS Word documents (.doc or .rtf). Since a blind review process is used to evaluate manuscripts, two versions of the manuscript should be attached, the original manuscript, and a modified version where all clues to the identity of the author is removed throughout the manuscript.

The original should include a cover sheet with title, name of author(s), institutional affiliation(s), running head, date of submission, as well as full mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address of the corresponding author. The cover sheet of the blind copy should contain only the title of the paper, and all notes, quotes and references to the author(s) should be removed from the manuscript.

Submissions should be typed with left justification, double spacing, and wide margins. Quotations should be distinctly indicated. Notes should be avoided, and, when used, should be defined as footnotes. All references in the text should be identified with the author’s name and year of publication, and pagination when appropriate, all within parentheses. Please refrain from using ibid., op.cit., etc.

Submissions should include a 200 words abstract in English, setting out the key findings of the paper. 5–7 keywords, preferably words not appearing in the title of the manuscript, should also be submitted. Abstract and keywords should be placed on a separate page at the end of the document.
